The doctors attending on Dr Ambarish at Vikram Hospital released a press note on Monday afternoon that explains the overall condition is stable as on today and improving gradually.

This is what the letter says – DIAGNOSIS – Respiratory infection, Acute Exacerbation of COPD, Mild Renal Impairment which is improving.

This is with regard to Sri Ambareesh (Amarnath MH) Hosp No.81139, 61 years, Honorable Minister for Housing, government of Karnataka was admitted to Vikram hospital on 21st Feb 2014. He is a known case of hypertension, diabetes mellitus well controlled, obstructive sleep apnoea and COPD presented with h/o acute breathlessness and fever of 5 days duration with worsening breathlessness since 2-3 hours before admission.

At the time of admission patient was in respiratory distress and fluid over load. Routine blood, radiological and other parameters were assessed. There was evidence of severe obstructive airway disease and OSA, pulmonary infection which initially managed with non invasive ventilation and other supportive measures and mild renal derangement which is improving. Patient continued to have significant hypoxia and started de-saturating with CO2 retention. In view of severe respiratory distress and possible risk of patient de-saturating further and going in to respiratory failure patient was electively intubated and mechanically ventilated with family consent and has been carefully monitored in intensive care unit.

At present Mr Ambareesh continues to be on ventilator and other medical support including IV anti biotic, nebulizers, feeding and other supportive measures. He is pain free with continuous sedation. Our plan next 24-48 hours is to optimize respiratory function and minimize his ventilator supports.

His overall condition is stable as on today and improving gradually. VIKRAM HOSPITAL
